Ramallah - Afaq News - President Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine, issued a presidential decree renewing the confidence in Professor Dr. Hussein Shank as President of Palestine Technical University - Khadori for a second presidential term, based on the recommendation of the Cabinet, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and the University Board of Trustees, in appreciation of what the university has achieved during the first presidential term in terms of academic, research, and institutional development, and enhancing its presence at both local and international levels.
The renewal of confidence in Professor Dr. Shank comes after four years filled with work and achievements, during which Palestine Technical University - Khadori continued its developmental journey in various academic, research, and institutional fields, despite the difficult economic challenges faced by the national economy, and the exceptional field conditions imposed by the Israeli occupation on Tulkarem Governorate and various governorates of the homeland, along with the accompanying assaults, incursions, closures, damages, and direct repercussions on economic, social, educational, and higher education life.
Despite these circumstances, Khadori maintained the continuity of its academic and national message, continued its efforts to develop the quality of education and its outcomes, implement its developmental plans, and enhance its research and academic capabilities, recording a series of qualitative achievements over the past years that contributed to strengthening its position within the Palestinian higher education system and solidifying its presence in the Arab and international academic scene.
In the field of international rankings, the university entered for the first time in its history the QS World University Rankings, achieving a position within the range of 1201-1400 globally, and the third rank in Palestine. It also continued its presence in international and regional rankings, making progress in the Times Higher Education ranking, including achieving the second rank in Palestine in the Times ranking of Arab universities for 2026, alongside its presence in the Times rankings for impact and sustainability, and recording the second rank in Palestine in the UI GreenMetric ranking for green and sustainable universities for 2026.
In the field of scientific research and academic publishing, the university doubled its research output and expanded its presence in the international scientific publishing system, in addition to the entry of the Palestine Technical University - Khadori journal into the Scopus database, which enhanced the research environment at the university and raised the presence of its researchers and their scientific output in international databases and academic journals.
In terms of international cooperation, the university has expanded its network of academic and research partnerships over the past years, hosting more than 20 international projects in collaboration with universities and international academic institutions, leading several of them, in addition to expanding academic and student exchange programs, which has allowed the university's students and researchers to engage with global academic experiences and institutions, enhancing Khuduri's presence in international higher education networks.
The university has also witnessed an expansion in its academic programs and the introduction of specialized disciplines that align with labor market needs, as during his presidency, a College of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence and a College of Allied Medical Sciences were established, along with the introduction of several doctoral and master's programs, and the development of integrated education programs, in parallel with enhancing the university's focus on practical training and partnerships with institutions and sectors of work, which boosts the readiness of its graduates and aligns its programs with the requirements of national development and the labor market.
In the field of infrastructure and the educational environment, Khuduri continued to develop its facilities and equip its laboratories and centers, opening modern laboratories in several disciplines, in addition to implementing developmental projects in the university's various branches, and working to provide a more suitable university environment for education, research, and innovation.
The family of Palestine Technical University - Khuduri extended its warmest congratulations and best wishes to Professor Dr. Hussein Shank for the renewal of confidence in him, wishing him success in continuing the university's journey, achieving more accomplishments, and enhancing its status as the university of the Palestinian state and a leading national institution in technical and academic education.
