Ramzi Rabah: There will be no end to the division without national dialogue and elections

Ramallah - Ofoq News - Member of the Executive Committee of the Liberation Organization and member of the Political Bureau of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Ramzi Rabah, said that the Executive Committee meeting held this afternoon witnessed a broad discussion about the national options proposed at the current stage, especially the general elections and the comprehensive national dialogue.

Rabah explained that the meeting stopped before the general elections for the Legislative and National Councils, as they are a mandatory entry point to renewing the legitimacy of national institutions and rebuilding the Palestinian political system on democratic and participatory foundations that enhance the people’s confidence in their institutions and enshrine their right to choose their representatives.

In his intervention, Rabah affirmed the Democratic Front’s adherence to the democratic option and to holding elections as a national entitlement that should not be neglected or circumvented, stressing that postponing the elections in the proposed formats does not address the internal crisis, but rather contributes to prolonging the division, keeps the political system in a state of stagnation and decline, and deepens the gap between national institutions and large sectors of our people, especially young people who aspire to change and participate in decision-making.

He added that the Democratic Front, regardless of the position taken by the Executive Committee, will continue to adhere to holding general elections as one of the necessary entry points for addressing the political and institutional crisis, renewing legitimacy, restoring democratic life, providing the basis for rebuilding national unity on the basis of true partnership, and also agreeing on a comprehensive national strategy capable of confronting the challenges and risks to which the Palestinian cause and our Palestinian people are exposed in their various locations.

In this context, Rabah renewed the Democratic Front’s call to hold a comprehensive national dialogue as quickly as possible, with the participation of all forces and factions, to address the vacuum resulting from the decision to postpone the elections, and to agree on clear mechanisms that guarantee national partnership in inclusive institutions, most notably the Palestine Liberation Organization, in accordance with the proposals presented by the Democratic Front in this regard.

Rabah stressed that the national dialogue and the general elections are two inseparable entitlements that cannot be separated from the other, and that what is required now is to transform the dialogue into a practical path with binding outcomes, in terms of ending the division, rebuilding the political system, and unifying national energies in confronting the occupation, in defense of the legitimate national rights of our people to freedom, self-determination, independence, and return.
