The American embassy in Riyadh has issued a new security warning, confirming that those working with the U.S. government need special permits to travel to the cities of Taif and Yanbu. The American embassy stated in its warning: "Due to the current security situation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, it has become necessary for U.S. government employees working in the Kingdom to obtain special permission for all travel—whether official or personal—to the cities of Taif and Yanbu."]
The warning came on Sunday, September 20, 2026. A few days earlier, the embassy had warned its citizens to reconsider traveling to the Kingdom amid fears of Iranian drone and missile attacks on American interests in the Gulf state, according to a "Travel Advisory" published on Wednesday.
Saudi Arabia is facing attacks from the Houthi group, backed by Iran in Yemen, amid escalating military operations between the two sides.
