The Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday that it launched a major attack overnight on Ukrainian infrastructure targets, including the country's largest steel factory in the city of Kryvyi Rih.
The plant is owned by steel giant ArcelorMittal, which halted operations in September after a series of ballistic missile strikes carried out by Russia.
The ministry said in a statement that the factory supplied the Ukrainian military-industrial complex with steel products.
She added that Russian forces also targeted a power substation in the city of Zhytomir, northwest of the country, and another steel factory in Zaporizhya near the front line.
It stated that a cargo ship in the Black Sea was also bombed, saying that it was transporting military cargo to the Ukrainian port of Odessa.
On the other hand, the Mayor of the Russian capital, Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, announced that the attack of 2,730 drones on Moscow and its suburbs had been repelled during the past week, confirming that most of the drones were destroyed before they approached the capital.
Sobyanin wrote on his channel on the “Max” application: “From October 10 until today, October 17, 2,730 drones flew towards Moscow and its suburbs. The air defense systems destroyed most of them before they approached the capital.”
534 drones were also destroyed as they approached Moscow.
Earlier today, the mayor of the Russian capital, Moscow, announced that air defenses destroyed 75 drones flying towards Moscow.
