The Egyptian researcher Aya Khalaf Ahmed embodied a remarkable example of determination and challenge, as she defended her master's thesis at the Faculty of Education at Ain Shams University despite suffering from labor pains and being pregnant with triplets, in a story that sparked widespread interaction on social media.
The pains of childbirth did not prevent her from completing the discussion session, which lasted several hours yesterday, Saturday, as she resorted to some painkillers to be able to finish it, before her efforts were crowned with obtaining a master's degree with "excellent" honors.
Immediately after the discussion ended, she moved to the operating room to give birth to her triplets, thus combining on the same day the joy of academic achievement and welcoming her children.
Aya clarified in exclusive statements to "Al Arabiya.net/Al Hadath.net" that she was aware that carrying triplets made the possibility of giving birth at any time likely, so she was keen to schedule an early date for her thesis defense, so she could complete her academic requirements before giving birth.
She added that she woke up on the morning of the discussion feeling labor pains, but she decided to stick to the scheduled appointment and not postpone it, noting that she took some painkillers to help her endure the pain until the discussion was over.
She also confirmed that she was not trying to rush the discussion of her thesis as much as she was trying to prepare for the possibility of early labor, pointing out that what she feared most was postponing the discussion and then going into labor, which could complicate her ability to complete her academic procedures or focus on her thesis while being busy taking care of her children later.
Aya also indicated that the morning of the discussion was one of the hardest times she had experienced, due to the coincidence of labor pains with preparing for the discussion, yet she was determined to finish this important milestone in her academic journey.
She concluded by saying that obtaining a master's degree with honors was not the end of the experience, but rather the beginning of another joy represented by the arrival of her triplets, affirming that day was one of the happiest days of her life, as it witnessed the birth of her academic achievement and the birth of her children at the same time.
