Sisi: 2030 is the end of my term as president of the state... and this matter is completely settled

Cairo - Ofoq News - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi confirmed on Saturday that his current presidential term will end in 2030, stressing that the constitution will not be amended, and denying that he is preparing a figure to succeed him or paving the way for the inheritance of power. His statements come amid news circulating about the possibility of making new constitutional amendments that would allow him to extend his stay in power.

During the graduation ceremony of new classes from the Egyptian Military Academy, Sisi said that the end of his presidency in 2030 is “completely settled,” stressing that the Egyptian constitution “will not be touched by anyone.”

He explained that he discussed the issue of not amending the constitution with media professionals following statements he made last Wednesday during a symposium organized by the armed forces, which addressed the challenges facing the country and the future of governance.

Egyptian media quoted Sisi as confirming that he is not preparing anyone to assume the presidency after him, and that Egypt is a large country that does not deserve to inherit power.

He stressed that his responsibility is to preserve the state and make it capable of continuing its work, pointing out the importance of preparing qualified cadres to assume public responsibilities, and the role that the Military Academy can play in this field.

These statements come after news circulated on social media platforms about the possibility of amending the Egyptian constitution in 2027, allowing Sisi to run for an additional presidential term after the end of his current term.

Last Wednesday, during the forty-fourth educational symposium for the armed forces, Sisi confirmed that the constitution approved by the Egyptians would not be touched, calling for the protection of the state from what he described as attempts to target its stability.

Al-Sisi has held the presidency since 2014, and was re-elected in 2018 and 2023, while his current term ends in 2030, and the existing constitutional text does not allow him to run for a new term.

Constitutional amendments approved in 2019 extended the presidential term from four years to six, and allowed Sisi to continue ruling until 2030, after the previous constitution set a shorter ceiling for his stay in office.
