Sisi: The Egyptian military effort is to defend Saudi Arabia and not an attack on Yemen

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said on Wednesday that the Egyptian military support scheduled to be directed to Saudi Arabia will be to “defend” the Kingdom, and will not include an “attack on Yemen.” Al-Sisi said during the activities of the Egypt 2026 Forum, according to what was reported by the Egyptian presidential spokesman, that “the Egyptian military effort is to defend Saudi Arabia’s lands and does not include an attack on Yemen.”

He continued: “Egypt’s standing with the Gulf states comes as an extension of common Arab national security... Arab national security is indivisible, and the stability of our brothers in the Gulf is a matter for Egypt.”

He also said that "the constants of Egyptian foreign policy since 2014 are based on the principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of countries and non-conspiracy." During his speech, he stressed "the necessity of restoring stability in all Arab countries, including Sudan, Libya and Somalia."

On Monday, the Egyptian House of Representatives decided to resume discussions on President Sisi’s request for a mandate to support Saudi Arabia in defending itself, next week. According to Article 152 of the Egyptian Constitution, the country’s president does not declare war or send forces outside the state’s borders except after taking the opinion of the National Defense Council and the approval of the House of Representatives by a two-thirds majority of members.
