Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, said on Saturday that her country launched a medium-range strategic missile during a firing drill that took place earlier today.
The Korean Central News Agency (the official agency of North Korea) reported that Jong, the second most powerful figure in Pyongyang, stated in an announcement: "This morning, a drill was conducted to launch a strategic weapon towards the East Sea of Korea."
She added: "A medium-range strategic missile was used in the drill."
According to the agency, leader Kim himself oversaw the training conducted by a sub-unit of the firepower force.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff in South Korea detected early on Saturday morning the launch of a ballistic missile by the North towards the East Sea from the eastern coastal area of Wonsan in North Korea.
