Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi responded to his French counterpart, Jean-Noel Barrot, and what the latter said on the anniversary of the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian woman, who died in Tehran after being arrested by the Iranian morality police. The French minister said in his post on the X platform (formerly Twitter), on Wednesday: “On this day two years ago, Mahsa Amini was killed by the moral police of the Iranian regime.
She was killed when she was twenty-two years old because of a veil that was not arranged in the “required” way, and because she wanted to live freely. Her death unleashed a cry that resonated throughout Iran and the world: ‘Woman, life, freedom.’”
Barrow continued, saying: “It is a cry that the Iranian regime’s bloody repression campaign will not succeed in silencing. France does not forget Mahsa Amini, and it stands with Iranian men and women who rightly aspire to justice and dignity.
They must be able to decide their future freely, and their basic rights must be respected... ‘Woman, life, freedom.’” For his part, Araqchi responded in a blog post on his page on the X platform, on Saturday: “France slaughtered 1.5 million Algerians during the War of Independence; Paris registered only less than a tenth of this number, and it refuses to offer any apology for its colonial crimes.
Stop shedding crocodile tears, Jean-Noel Barrot; Your silence when the United States committed a massacre against our children in schools was the most eloquent expression of your position.”
