The Director of Construction Projects at the Syrian General Grain Corporation, Safwan Qadid, announced the start of construction work for mineral silo projects in 7 sites affiliated with grain centres, within the framework of the Corporation’s plan to enhance storage capacity and prepare to receive the wheat crop for the 2027 season.

Qudayd said that Empac Engineering Industries Company has received the seven work sites where the metal silos are scheduled to be built, in preparation for the implementation of the works according to the specified schedule, which are: “Al-Hasakah Governorate - Al-Safah,” “Raqqa Governorate - Sabkha,” “Deir ez-Zor Governorate - Al-Mayadeen,” “Aleppo Governorate - Barda,” and “Idlib Governorate: Tal Al-Tuqan - Saraqib - Khan Shaykhun.”

He added that the company has begun construction work in the Haboob Saraqib Center and Khan Shaykhun, and will enter the rest of the sites successively and in parallel, allowing the pace of implementation to be accelerated and the projects to be completed within the specified dates, according to the Syrian News Agency, SANA.

He explained that the Corporation is working in parallel to complete the procedures for offering additional projects, noting that the end date of the tender for the construction of metal silos in 15 additional locations is set for the fourth of next November, with work expected to begin in early December 2026.

He said that the new projects are expected to contribute to adding about 700,000 tons to the grain storage capacity, bringing the total storage capacity targeted for the 2027 season to about 2.5 million tons.

Qadid explained that these projects come within the framework of efforts aimed at developing the infrastructure for grain storage, raising readiness to receive the wheat crop, and enhancing the ability to absorb the quantities marketed during the next season.

The quantities of wheat received during the last season amounted to about 2.7 million tons, while the storage capacity did not exceed 1.2 million tons, which forced the Ministry of Economy and Industry to store more than one million tons in the open, and bear large additional costs and risks associated with weather factors, storage and sterilization.
