The Arab League Condemns Israeli Escalation Against Holy Sites and the Palestinian People

Cairo - Afaq News - The General Secretariat of the Arab League condemned today, Monday, the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by an Israeli official and a group of settlers under the protection of the occupation forces.

It affirmed its rejection of any violation of the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Islamic holy sites or any alteration of the existing historical and legal status, and emphasized the respect for the Hashemite guardianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

It also condemned the continued incursions, raids, and campaigns of arrests in Palestinian cities and towns, and what is happening in the town of Biddu, northwest of Jerusalem, in terms of arrests, searches, and destruction of homes, as well as assaults on citizens, asserting that these practices represent a serious escalation and a violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

The General Secretariat expressed its rejection of the closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque to Muslim worshippers and the prohibition of the call to prayer, affirming its rejection of any measures that affect the freedom of worship or aim to change the reality of the holy sites.

It called on the international community, especially the Security Council, to assume its responsibilities and stop these violations, to provide protection for the Palestinian people and their holy sites, and to maintain the existing historical and legal status in Jerusalem, which contributes to preventing escalation and achieving calm, stability, and a just and comprehensive peace.
