Cairo - Ofoq News - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi confirmed that Cairo does not seek to go to war with Israel, denying the existence of expansionist ambitions or secret plans towards it, during a speech he delivered at a conference on the occasion of the 53rd anniversary of the October War in 1973.
Sisi's statements came in response to statements by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who said that Egypt would not keep the Sinai Peninsula if it attacked Israel.
Al-Sisi said: “Who told you that we want war? We have no ambitions for anyone. Our land is in our hands, and we fought to regain it, and the matter is over,” he said, adding that Egypt’s only goal is to preserve the state, its borders, and its lands.
The Egyptian President continued, asking whether Israeli concerns towards Cairo were still based on the concerns of the past six decades, stressing that Egypt does not aspire to control any lands belonging to Israel.
On the other hand, the statements in Israel sparked a discussion about the future of security relations between the two countries, in light of continued Israeli fears of Egyptian military movements in Sinai. Israeli media considered that Sisi's statements alone are not enough to guarantee that a future confrontation will not break out
