Gaza - Afaq News - The government media in Gaza has firmly confirmed that the "Happiness Tower" which recently collapsed, resulting in more than 21 martyrs and dozens of injured and missing; was directly targeted by the Israeli occupation army in the first half of the genocide war on the Gaza Strip; specifically on October 9, 2023, around five o'clock in the evening.
At that time, the Israeli occupation's bombardment focused on the foundations of the building and its first and second floors, causing severe and deliberate structural damage to its infrastructure and basic foundations.
He added in a statement: This premeditated and focused bombardment is the real and direct cause of the complete collapse of the building. The claims of the Israeli occupation army and its denial of targeting the tower are nothing but a desperate and transparent attempt to evade legal responsibility for this crime, which is a systematic misleading policy that the occupation always follows to evade the disasters and massacres it commits.
He clarified that engineering inspections, documented field reports, and eyewitness testimonies have proven the falsehood of the occupation's narrative and its confusion.
He reiterated that the Israeli occupation bears full and direct responsibility for this collapse, which falls under the systematic destruction policy of infrastructure and civilian objects; in clear and explicit violation of international humanitarian law and all international treaties and norms.
He warned in the same context of the danger of the collapse of dozens of other cracked residential buildings, which have become a looming threat to the lives of citizens and displaced persons due to their bombardment and the destruction of their foundations by the occupation during periods of ongoing war.
He called on the international community, international and human rights organizations, to document this ongoing crime and similar crimes, and to work diligently to pursue the leaders of the occupation in international courts, and to bear their responsibilities towards protecting civilians and civilian objects in the Gaza Strip.
