Sanaa - Ofoq News - Two guard members were killed and six others were injured, Thursday, as a result of a missile attack targeting the presidential palace in the city of Aden in southern Yemen, where the internationally recognized Yemeni government supported by Saudi Arabia operates, according to what Israeli media reported, citing Yemeni officials.
The Yemeni Minister of Youth and Sports, Nayef Al-Bakri, said in statements reported by Al-Arabiya channel that the attack resulted in two deaths and six injuries, while the Prime Minister and ministers inside the complex were unharmed. Reports indicated that government members intend to remain in Aden despite the attack.
Eyewitnesses told Reuters that strong explosions were heard in the vicinity of the palace, while the Associated Press reported that at least six explosions were recorded in the airspace of Aden, the temporary capital of the country. Local security sources also indicated that air defense systems attempted to intercept the missiles, but the attack or fragments of the interceptions caused damage to the guard buildings surrounding the palace.
The attack comes amid escalating tensions between the Houthis, who are supported by Iran, and Saudi Arabia. Hours before targeting the palace, the coalition forces led by Riyadh announced that the Houthis had attempted to attack multiple targets inside the kingdom, including airports, ports, and oil facilities.
