With the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran, and the continuation of the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports, the Iranian rial continued to decline, while the central bank announced it would inject up to two billion dollars to support the currency.
The website Bon Bast.com, which monitors the free market, indicated that the selling price of the U.S. dollar reached about 2.688 million rials yesterday, Saturday, up from 2.632 million on Friday.
Meanwhile, the website Anshand.com reported that the price of the dollar reached 2.695 million rials yesterday.
While government banks began selling up to two billion dollars to support the currency, which has lost more than half of its value over the past year.
In contrast, Mahdi Darabi, the assistant governor of the central bank for foreign currency affairs, attributed the decline of the rial partly to what he described as misleading expectations from American officials regarding the collapse of the Iranian economy. Darabi told Iranian television, "The idea is being promoted that the Iranian economy is on the verge of collapse... and the enemy is using that to influence the exchange rate of our currency," adding that the current drop of the rial is temporary.
With the inflation rate exceeding 70 percent, life in Iran has become increasingly difficult for ordinary citizens who cannot afford the cost of basic necessities or rent, at a time when the American blockade is cutting off the country's financial lifeline represented by oil exports.
Meanwhile, the U.S. administration confirmed that it will continue to pressure Iran and prevent it from benefiting from its oil exports by maintaining the naval blockade. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth emphasized that the blockade remains tight and strict.
For his part, U.S. President Donald Trump recently indicated that he would make important decisions regarding Iran, noting that the situation will proceed "the easy way or the hard way," as he put it.
Tehran had presented a new plan at the end of last month (September) aimed at ending the war and opening the Strait of Hormuz within 7 days, in exchange for lifting the American naval blockade and unfreezing its exports abroad. However, the Trump administration rejected it, insisting on demanding concessions from the Iranian side regarding the nuclear file.
