On Saturday, the UAE National Guard announced the rescue of 22 people after a fire broke out in an oil tanker in the waters of the Gulf, and all of them are in good health. The National Guard published a statement saying: “The Coast Guard Group of the National Guard was able to rescue 22 people of Asian nationality, following a fire that broke out in an oil tanker they were on board inside the waters of the Arabian Gulf.”
The statement added that the rescue operation came after receiving "a report from the tanker's crew stating that a fire had broken out on board. The specialized teams immediately began response procedures and dealt with the report, and were able to locate the tanker, reach it, and rescue its 22 crew members." The National Guard provided the necessary first aid to these people, “and they were handed over to the relevant authorities, and they are all in stable health condition,” according to the statement.
The UAE statement did not specify the causes of the fire that broke out in the oil tanker. The ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran continues to affect the situation in the Gulf, specifically the transit rates of ships in the vital Strait of Hormuz.
Qatar announced, on Tuesday, that mediation efforts between the United States and Iran are still in place, as Doha continues to play the role of mediator between the two conflicting countries. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he does not plan to attack Iran before the midterm congressional elections.
The president's statements come in the wake of multiple media reports detailing the US administration's planning to launch possible new strikes before the elections.
