As the "Yemen Dawn" operation strikes continue, the Yemeni government renewed, on Saturday, its request to the United Nations and the UN Security Council to tighten the implementation of the arms embargo imposed on the Houthi militia.

The Yemeni government delivered a message to the United Nations and the UN Security Council regarding the attack launched by the Houthi militia on Aden International Airport, on October 7, demanding the condemnation of this crime, holding its perpetrators accountable, and the full and effective implementation of the arms embargo imposed on the militia.

Yemen's permanent representative to the United Nations, Abdullah Al-Saadi, stated that the attack occurred at dawn on Wednesday using two ballistic missiles and explosive drones, while it coincided with a civilian flight approaching to land at the airport, and the presence of planes, passengers, and workers, which put their lives in danger and threatened the safety of air navigation.

The government also said that the attack confirms the transition of the threats it previously warned about regarding aviation safety in the southern Red Sea from potential risks on international air routes to direct targeting of a civilian facility, warning that these threats overlap with the risks facing maritime navigation and the security of the region.

In addition, the government called on the Security Council to take measures to prevent the access of weapons, equipment, components, technology and military expertise to the Houthis, in accordance with the relevant Council resolutions, especially Resolution 2216 issued in 2015.

It also called for strengthening international cooperation with Yemeni institutions to protect airports, civilian facilities and flight paths, and expressed its readiness to cooperate with the United Nations, the Security Council, the International Civil Aviation Organization and the Group of Experts on Yemen, and to exchange available information and evidence to assess risks and prevent the recurrence of attacks.

This came as the Yemeni military operation “Yemen Dawn” entered its sixth day, with government forces announcing the completion of control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the strategic island of Mayon, and consolidating their positions in the highlands overlooking the international shipping lane, in progress that strengthens their positions on the western coast and gives them an important field presence near one of the most prominent sea lanes for global trade.
