The communist’s encounter with wisdom sparked a fatwa... “Takfir”

Writers and political activists objected and were surprised by the meeting of the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Iraqi Communist Party, Raed Fahmi, with the Secretary of the “Al-Hikma Movement,” the owner of the black turban, Ammar Al-Hakim. The objection was the great difference or discrepancy between them, and that an infidel fatwa against the Communist Party was issued by Al-Hakim’s grandfather. Perhaps, had it not been for the photo that brought together the head of the Communist Party with one of the heads of the religious movement, and his distinctive clothing such as the turban and the kaftan, this astonishment would not have been so intense, as today’s photo sums it up. However, this meeting was not the first contact between the two movements, as it happened that the former Secretary of the Communist Party was sitting next to the leader of the Islamic Movement at the first conference of the Iraqi opposition (1991) in Beirut, and coordination was ongoing between the communists and Islamists during the long years of opposition, when the goal was the same, although the approach differed in The nature of the subsequent regime. The Communist Party justified the last meeting, between Fahmi and Al-Hakim, as a dialogue to get out of the political crisis. The party would not have published its justification had it not been that the objection was widespread and influential. However, the matter can be explained further than this, as the disputes that plagued Iraq (1959), where religious fatwas were issued against the communists, and their reaction to them, no longer exist, and the takfir fatwa had its circumstances at the time, and grandson Ammar was no longer responsible for it, and this fatwa has not been implemented since the mid-eighties, when The “Supreme Islamic Council” adopted its republishing in its press, and what was meant by it was the “Iranian Communist Party,” when Tehran announced its prohibition. Also, politics has no stability, as yesterday’s enemy becomes today’s friend. This, and he did not objectThe Islamists, as parties, blocs, and individuals, agreed with this meeting, as it seems that they understood the reality of the situation. The fatwa is Islamic, and the one harmed by it is the one against whom it was issued. Therefore, we find the objection limited to the communists, as it isolated them with disbelief, and the Islamists did not back down from it, even though a meeting took place between the former Secretary-General of the party and the supreme authority, Ayat Ali al-Sistani (after 2003), and we heard that for guidance, a party was placed on it. He wore his cloak, a sign of his approval, and he did not discuss it in the fatwa or issue anything to cancel it. In addition, a headquarters for the Communist Party is open in Najaf, close to the House of Reference. It is true that he is subjected to harassment from time to time, but it is not an intended confrontation between Islamists and communists, but rather frictions undertaken by those who remain influenced by the takfir fatwa, or for other goals. Political work inside Iraq, and the conditions of parliamentary life, all of this does not allow a party or group to refrain from coordination and dialogue on specific issues. It is most likely that the issue concerns the Al-Hakim family and the takfir fatwa, and nothing else. If this meeting had been with another turban, like the turban of Muqtada al-Sadr, for example, this meeting would not have raised objections in any way, but it was with the grandson of the one who issued the aforementioned fatwa. Perhaps some intended to provoke the cancellation of the fatwa, and we do not know whether the grandson has the right to cancel the grandfather’s fatwa when he was the supreme authority, and he is now the head of a movement that presents himself as a civilian, and agrees with yesterday’s enemy in resolving the political crisis. The objection did not remain limited to the fatwa, but some argued that the Communist Party should not be involved in cases of financial corruption, even though it held ministries, so it is supposed to remain unique in its position, far from the blocs accused of financial abuses. And administrative. But this party cannot impose its demands except in coordination with the rest of the blocs and parties, and the size of its representation does not allow it to do so. The meeting between the communist “scythe and hammer” and the Islamic “wisdom” has no obstacles left, and this is what the objectors must take into account.
