Gaza - Ofoq News - The Israeli occupation army announced the assassination of Hisham Jamal Muhammad Abu Ghalala, one of the leaders of the elite unit of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas movement, during an air strike that targeted the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip last week.
The occupation army spokesman said on Sunday that the operation was carried out in cooperation with the Israeli General Security Service, Shin Bet, last Monday, noting that Abu Ghalala was among the leaders who led the attack on the Kissufim military site on October 7, 2023, and participated in capturing Israelis during the attack.
According to the Israeli army's statement, during the war and in the recent period, Abu Ghalala continued to plan operations against the occupation forces and Israeli citizens, and he was also accused of working to rebuild the military capabilities of the Hamas movement.
The army claimed that the assassination was aimed at removing what it described as the threat it posed, claiming that it was working to strengthen the movement’s capabilities despite the ceasefire agreement.
The statement added that Israeli forces in the southern region are still deployed in accordance with the agreement, and will continue to work, as it put it, to remove any immediate threat.
