Social networking sites in Egypt were abuzz with a video clip showing a ma’zoon pushing the groom to utter an “outside word” during a wedding ceremony, which caused controversy and criticism among followers, and it later became clear that he was “impersonating a ma’zoon.”
The muezzin appeared in the circulating clip, wearing the famous Azhar uniform of the muezzin, during the wedding ceremony of two newlyweds in Cairo, in the presence of a large number of the bride and groom’s family and friends, while the muezzin prompted the groom to utter the word “outside” during the ceremony in an effort to make the audience laugh.
For its part, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior issued an official statement about the incident, revealing the biggest surprise, as it turned out that the official appearing in the video clip, who is performing the wedding of two brides in the presence of a large number of people, was a “fake official.”
The Ministry said in its statement yesterday evening, Monday, that in the context of uncovering the circumstances of the controversial circulating video clip, and the indication of the Head of the Legal Officials Syndicate that the person appearing in the video clip is “impersonating the status of a legal official,” the examination was able to identify and arrest the person complained of, and he is a resident of the Giza Governorate. When confronted, he admitted that he does not practice the profession of a legal official, and that his role is limited to carrying out the advertising process only during wedding celebrations, and contracts are authenticated through an approved official.
The Ministry confirmed that legal measures had been taken against the “fake official.”
