Manchester United's English midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, expressed his annoyance after suffering a harsh loss to Italian Como, with a score of 1/4, at the latter's stadium, on Wednesday, in the third round of the Champions League. After the match, while speaking to TNT SPORTS, Bruno seemed not satisfied with his coach Michael Carrick’s approach to pressuring the opponent inside the green rectangle.
“It is a decision by the staff not to put pressure on each player individually,” Bruno Fernandes said. He added: "But sometimes when you give these teams a lot of the ball, they gain confidence. They have a lot of players behind the ball, which forces you to run a lot, and makes people frustrated."
Regarding whether the Red Devils team made a mistake in its tactics, he said: “This matter is up to the coach and the technical staff, not me. I just said that I think that sometimes we must be braver under pressure, and risk high pressure and make them uncomfortable.” He continued: "I think we got off to a wrong start again, and they scored a goal very early. We did not put much pressure on the ball, and there were not many good movements without the ball."
The 32-year-old continued: “As you saw with them (Cuomo), the center back was moving forward to mark me in my own half. We had to do that as a team, but we were not able to do that.” He explained: “The team that plays from the midfield with short passes, if you give them a long time to think and move in the middle of the field, they create a lot of space on the sides. This is what they did, and the first goal came from that.”
This is the second time that a Manchester United player has expressed his extreme anger over the recent poor results, as defender Lisandro Martinez urged the management to invest more effectively in the team’s squad.
