Trump Acknowledged Behind the Scenes the Implications of the War on His Party Electorally

It seems that U.S. President Donald Trump has begun to take the increasing concerns within the Republican Party regarding the upcoming midterm elections in November more seriously, after receiving candid assessments from his advisors about the difficult electoral landscape and the party's declining position among voters.

While Trump continues to publicly assert that his decisions regarding the war with Iran are not influenced by electoral considerations, private conversations with his advisors have revealed that he has come to realize that some of these decisions have complicated the political environment facing Republicans, at a time when oil and fuel prices are rising and economic pressures on voters are increasing.

Four informed individuals also clarified that Trump has become more attentive to the polls presented to him in recent weeks, even when the results are unfavorable, while his advisors have started to speak with him more candidly about the electoral reality facing the party, according to the Washington Post.

It is worth noting that Trump has always approached negative opinion polls with caution, often describing some as unrealistic or untrustworthy. He tends to focus on polls that present a more positive picture of his political standing.

However, his advisors revealed that his position has begun to change, and he has become more willing to listen to his team's data regarding his approval ratings and voters' evaluations of the Republican Party's performance.

But that does not mean that the president has abandoned his public optimism; rather, he has become more engaged in electoral details.

This shift comes at a time when Trump is facing the lowest approval ratings of his second term, while a large part of his agenda this year has remained tied to the war with Iran and construction projects in Washington that he sees as part of his political legacy.

The repercussions of the war with Iran are one of the key aspects in the new political calculations. The conflict has led to rising oil prices, which have reflected on fuel prices in the United States, while Trump faces criticism related to his failure to fulfill his electoral promise of significantly lowering prices.

However, despite the economic pressures, Trump continued to defend his decisions regarding Iran. He had stated in May that concerns about Americans' financial situations do not alter his calculations regarding preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

During an election appearance in North Carolina, Trump acknowledged that the war has led to rising gasoline prices, but he considered the cost justified in light of what he said were the results achieved.

In parallel with this shift in handling polls, Trump began taking practical steps to bolster the position of Republicans. He approved spending plans from super PACs allied with him, bringing the total payments to about $140 million.

Several candidates and campaign workers within the Republican Party had expressed concerns about Trump holding a large reserve of political funds without directing it adequately to competitive races.

The Republican president also became more interested in the electoral messages used by the White House and Republican allies. He watched a series of ads prepared for broadcast during a conference in Dallas from the Oval Office, along with television ads dedicated to electoral races, and provided his feedback on modifications to the promotional materials.

The shift was not limited to funding and advertisements, as Trump pledged to personally participate in campaigns for 35 competitive races in key swing states.

His team intends to increase the frequency of campaign rallies during October, despite uncertainty about the actual number of trips the president will make. His advisors have already prepared a preliminary outline for his travel schedule, in an effort to enhance his presence in the more competitive races.

In North Carolina, Trump appeared alongside Michael Watley, the Republican Senate candidate and former chairman of the Republican National Committee, as part of his efforts to support Republican candidates in states facing strong electoral competition.

Although there are signs that Trump has become more aware of the implications of some of his decisions on the electoral situation, there are differing interpretations within his team regarding the extent of responsibility he is willing to accept.

One insider said that Trump feels some of his decisions contributed to the circumstances that made his political situation more difficult, while another person confirmed that there are signs of his acknowledgment of a degree of responsibility.

Conversely, a person who is in regular contact with Trump regarding the elections rejected the idea that he has accepted blame, stating that the president believes the bigger problem for Republicans is the absence of his name on the ballot this year.

It seems that these calculations are pushing Trump to increase his direct involvement in the midterm elections, after spending months publicly downplaying the political circumstances and negative polls.

According to those close to the American president, he wants to continue moving until election day, relying on his ability to rally his electoral base in the face of what he sees as an increase in Democratic enthusiasm.

However, Trump's political schedule in the coming days will limit his electoral activities, as he is scheduled to head to New York to participate in the United Nations General Assembly meetings, before hosting Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington during a state visit.

As November approaches, the battle for Trump shifts from defending his policies to trying to convert his political, financial, and field presence into direct support for Republican candidates, at a time when poll results have become a more prominent part of his electoral calculations.
