Trump: The Democrats are demanding my impeachment... and the veto may push them to conclude an agreement

- US President Donald Trump invited his supporters to collect donations, coinciding with the start of polling stations closing on Tuesday, warning that Democrats were “publicly calling for his impeachment” if they took control of Congress during the midterm elections taking place today. “Half of my first term has effectively passed,” Trump said in a fundraising text message.

And to be honest, there is still a lot to be done to complete the mission of 'Make America Great Again'. I promise you that I will continue to fight every day for you and for your families,” he added, “And our opponents, the Democrats, are more reckless, angrier, and more dangerous than ever.”

If the Democrats are able to regain control of either chamber of Congress, they will have powerful tools to exercise oversight and investigate the actions of the Trump administration. They will also have a role in making decisions related to government spending, and they may have a mandate to cancel some of the changes imposed by Trump, or push towards regulating the artificial intelligence sector, something that Trump previously opposed. In an interview published on Monday, Trump told the New York Post that he was ready to issue a preemptive pardon to his aides if the Democrats took control of Congress and decided to target his administration officials.

He said: "I will do it if necessary, of course... I will not hesitate to think about it, I will do it directly."

Later, Trump stated that his use of his veto might eventually push Democrats to conclude bilateral agreements with him, if they made gains in the midterm elections. “Historically, when you veto for a few months, the other side comes along and says, 'We have to make a deal,'" Trump said in an interview with CBS. He also indicated that he might expand his use of executive powers if Democrats try to restrict his moves through Congress.

He stated that he had done his best in recent weeks to support Republican candidates across the country, and said that his campaign had contributed to turning what seemed like a "blue wave" (a possible Democratic sweep) into a more competitive race.
