Visitors do not need an invitation from the White House to sit behind the desk of the American president or to get close to the details of the Oval Office.
Just a short distance from the presidential headquarters in Washington, a museum experience allows the public to enter a life-size replica of the office and take photos in it, amidst golden decor that mimics Donald Trump's choices during his second presidential term, according to the Associated Press.
The version in the "People's House: The White House Experience" museum has undergone a new update, with added gilded decorations and frames, along with artworks and decorative pieces that reflect the look Trump chose for the Oval Office.
The experience is not limited to simulating a famous room; it gives visitors the opportunity to get close to a space that has been associated for decades with major presidential decisions, political meetings, and historic moments in the United States.
The exhibition does not present a static version of the Oval Office; rather, it changes with the arrival of a new president, in an attempt to reflect the details of the occupant's choices and style in arranging the space.
In July 2025, the museum version witnessed its first major update, after items associated with Joe Biden's term were replaced with others that mimic Trump's choices during his first term.
However, with the latest update, the exhibition has become more like a visual record of the changes that occur in the office from one administration to another, from furniture and artworks to frames and decorative pieces.
Thus, the project does not merely reproduce a well-known presidential space, but allows visitors to compare the ways different presidents have chosen to present the place that represents one of the most prominent symbols of American executive power.
To reproduce the details of the office, the organizers of the experience enlisted artisans and specialized teams in the production of frames and decorative pieces. The version includes 24 images chosen by Trump, surrounded by gilded frames, along with replicas of the vases and decorative pieces found in the presidential office. However, the visual similarity does not mean the use of the same materials.
In the real Oval Office, there are decorations covered in gold leaf, while the creators of the museum version opted for a golden paint, allowing for the preservation of the overall appearance while withstanding daily use and a large number of visitors.
One of the most prominent elements of the experience is the opportunity for visitors to sit behind a replica of the "Resolute" desk, one of the most famous pieces of furniture associated with the U.S. presidency, amidst replicas that mimic the office's furniture and artistic possessions.
The experience does not stop at the visual aspect, as a media unit inside the room displays historical and contemporary images, linking the details of the place to stations, personalities, and events associated with the Oval Office over the decades. Thus, the visitor transforms from a mere spectator to a part of the scene, in an experience that combines the commemorative image with learning about presidential history, giving the decor details a meaning that transcends their aesthetic value.
It is noteworthy that the White House Historical Association opened the museum in September 2024, inside a three-story building on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington.
In addition to the miniature version of the Oval Office, the museum includes a representation of the Rose Garden, immersive exhibits that mimic several rooms of the White House, as well as testimonies from individuals who worked inside the presidential residence. The museum allows free entry, with prior reservation of permits to organize visitor numbers.
