Amid the failure so far to reach a solution between Iran and America that would end the conflict, which has entered its eighth month, US Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed that Washington wants to obtain a final commitment from Tehran regarding the nuclear file.
Vance said in an interview with CBS News on Sunday: “We are seeking a final and firm commitment from the Iranians not to rebuild their nuclear program.”
He also considered that the world and America would witness a decline in fuel prices when the conflict with Iran ended.
In addition, he stressed that the United States “achieved a decisive victory” in Iran by destroying its nuclear program. But he added that the war must continue to ensure that Tehran does not rebuild its nuclear capabilities and to prevent a global energy supply crisis. He said: "I will be the first to tell you that fuel prices are very high... but they would have been three times higher had the US Navy not kept oil and gas flowing through the Strait of Hormuz."
US President Donald Trump had repeatedly confirmed in the past that he had destroyed Iran's nuclear capabilities, as well as Iran's naval fleet and military capabilities.
While he indicated a few days ago that he ruled out launching attacks against Iran at the present time, pointing out that negotiations with it are still continuing.
While none of the mediators (Pakistan or Qatar) has announced yet that an understanding ending the conflict is close to being reached, despite assurances that the dialogue is continuing indirectly behind the scenes.
Note that the Iranian and American sides had reached a preliminary agreement last June, but it quickly collapsed in July following the continued targeting of ships in the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian forces. American forces responded by striking Iranian sites, while continuing to impose a naval blockade on Iranian ports, preventing the exit or entry of oil ships.
