The legal clock in Egypt changed, starting at 12 a.m. on Friday, with the implementation of the winter time system and the end of summer time, which the Egyptian government restored in 2023, after years of disabling it with the aim of rationalizing energy consumption. The Egyptian government announced, in a statement, on Wednesday, via Facebook: “Winter time will begin to be implemented in Egypt starting at midnight on Thursday, October 29, 2026, and at 12:00 midnight, by delaying the clock by 60 minutes.”
She pointed out that Law No. 24 of 2023 regarding determining daylight saving time stipulates that “from the last Friday of April until the end of the last Thursday of October of every Gregorian year, the legal hour in the Arab Republic of Egypt is the hour according to the prevailing time, advanced by sixty minutes.” The daylight saving time system is to change the official time in Egypt twice. The first is to move the clock forward by 60 minutes at the beginning of the spring semester, then restore winter time at the beginning of the fall semester.
The implementation of the daylight saving time system began in Egypt during the reign of King Farouk I with Decree Law No. 113 of 1945 - in accordance with the explanatory memorandum for the daylight saving time law - and since its approval, it has been implemented and canceled several times, the most recent of which was the cancellation of this system in 2016.
