Bethlehem - Ofoq News - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he is ready to hold elections in Ukraine if Russian President Vladimir Putin agrees to a 60-day ceasefire, in response to US President Donald Trump’s call to choose a new president for Ukraine.
The Israeli newspaper Ynet quoted Zelensky as saying, in an interview with the American ABC network, that the Ukrainian people should decide who will assume the presidency of the country, stressing the right of Ukrainians to choose their leadership.
Trump had called for replacing Zelensky, criticizing his position on the settlement with Russia. This comes in light of the continuation of the war that broke out following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, which prevented the presidential elections that were scheduled to be held in 2024.
Regarding the issue of attacks on energy facilities, Zelensky said that his country is ready to stop targeting Russian oil refineries if Moscow stops its attacks on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, stressing that any reduction in escalation must be mutual and backed by guarantees.
On the other hand, Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop attacks on energy facilities, but the report indicated that there was no official confirmation from both sides regarding this announcement.
