Alaa Mubarak, the son of the late Egyptian President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak, wondered why the former Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, “ignored” his father while talking about a previous meeting he had with former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and his praise of Egypt because of its leaders at the time, Anwar Sadat and Gamal Abdel Nasser, and his expression of his wish that Kissinger would be there to praise what the current president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, is doing. Aboul Gheit said in his speech during the activities of the forty-fourth educational symposium organized by the Egyptian army, in the presence of Sisi: “I met Kissinger while I was Egypt’s delegate to the United Nations at a diplomatic party, so I introduced myself as Egypt’s delegate to the United Nations.”
Because you produce historical leaders, you have Gamal Abdel Nasser and Sadat. I wish he were alive to say: And you have Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Mubarak responded to Aboul Gheit’s statements by saying: “Did your Excellency also wish or perhaps you would have liked Kissinger to be alive and say, ‘And you had Mubarak too?’”
The son of the late Egyptian president added, saying: “Several years ago, in the same symposium, you kindly said, ‘After the death of former President Anwar Sadat, a new leadership in Egypt will assume responsibility and will consider and move with caution, determination, and wisdom, and impose withdrawal on April 25, 1982. Beautiful and respectful words, but the question for which I cannot find an answer is the reason for Your Excellency not mentioning and deliberately ignoring the name of President Mubarak, may God have mercy on him,’” he said.
