- Major General Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, told Iranian state media that officials in the country are discussing the status of Iran's nuclear program. Press TV quoted Rezaei as saying: “No new decision has been taken so far.
Of course, the debate now is whether we will maintain the same doctrine as previously followed in the event of another war.” Iran has always maintained that its nuclear program is peaceful in nature.
Earlier this month, the US military laid out new attack plans that include using the largest non-nuclear bomb in the US arsenal against Iran's energy infrastructure and nuclear sites. Rezaei's statements come after he received a letter from US Vice President J.D. Vance. It is a message that President Donald Trump said was related to an Iranian request for medical supplies.
This move raised hopes that a diplomatic breakthrough could be on the horizon. Rezaei said on Saturday that he had seen Vance's letter, but had not responded to it yet.
