The Deputy Governor of Najaf, Karar Mahbouba, who belongs to Mr. Hammam Hamoudi’s “Absher Ya Iraq” bloc, proposes an initiative to solve the hijab crisis in Azerbaijan. He proposes a magic solution that requires hosting a thousand Azerbaijani female students with their families in the schools of Najaf Governorate, in response to the Azerbaijani government’s decision to prevent veiled female students from studying. Of course, no one can fail to stand in solidarity with the female students and teachers who face an arbitrary decision, far from the roots of the problem that led to the issuance of the decision in Azerbaijan. But what is strange and exciting is that the Deputy Governor of Najaf entered the crisis line and “blessed” him by hosting a thousand families at the expense of the governorate, and transformed him from a local official into “an advocate for solving global crises.” As I read Mr. Mahbouba’s statement, I called some friends in Najaf Governorate to find out the reality of education in the governorate, and it became clear to me that the Deputy Governor does not know Nothing about what is happening in Najaf schools, and the issue of education has not been continued or discussed. Perhaps the most prominent thing that the governorate’s educational reality says is that: “Najaf schools face challenges related to the lack of school buildings, the continued attendance of caravan schools, in addition to student overcrowding and the lack of basic supplies in a number of educational institutions.” Despite my complete solidarity with the female students of Azerbaijan, and my belief that dress is a personal freedom for every human being, Mr. Karrar Mahbooba’s call was not without some humor, sorrow, and sarcasm. It far exceeded the mockery of what happened in our esteemed parliament, and it also exceeded the mockery launched by a number of ignorant political analysts against everyone who tries to talk about corruption, nepotism, opportunism, and stealing the people’s money. Among these crying jokes are whatMedia reports indicate that some schools in Najaf include more than a thousand students, while the number of students in one class reaches between 40 and 50 students, in addition to the adoption of a double-shift system by many schools, which highlights the magnitude of the challenges facing the educational sector in Najaf, an issue that did not concern the Deputy Governor, who insisted on replacing the slogan “Preach good news, O Iraq” with a banner that reads: “Preach good news, O Azerbaijani.” I do not know whether the Deputy Governor has the courage to demand as well. Sponsoring the families of orphans and the poor in Najaf, and providing the best ways to develop education? Did he see the report of the Ministry of Planning that was issued last April, in which it identifies five governorates that had the highest poverty rate in Iraq, and that Najaf Governorate is one of these five governorates, despite the great potential this city possesses? Our real tragedy, gentlemen, is that we deal in politics with the logic of “savvy,” moving randomly without any logic, and we have reached the point that we are inventing a new enemy every day, in order to distract people from the real enemy: the absence of the national project.
