The Pentagon database, which tracks casualties in the context of tensions with Iran, recorded the death of two Air Force members in recent days, bringing the total number of deaths among the US military since the start of operations on February 28 to 23 cases. An update issued by the Department of Defense Casualty Analysis System indicated that the death occurred in “non-combat” circumstances, a term meaning it was not caused by a hostile attack, and this case is currently classified as “under review” pending the results of the investigation.
The second death, according to the database, was caused by “illness/injury.” Under the Pentagon's casualty reporting procedures, soldiers who become ill in a conflict zone and later die in US hospitals can be counted in the total conflict-related death toll.
The database indicates that 11 cases out of 23 deaths recorded in this context were the result of hostile attacks, and 866 other soldiers were injured during the operations. The Air Force did not provide an official response to a query sent to it by the Ofoq News network.
