- Pakistani Army Commander, Field Marshal Asim Munir, will head to the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Tuesday, to hold talks with senior Iranian officials, according to the official Iranian “IRNA” news agency. The Iranian agency quoted an official source as saying that Munir will hold meetings with senior Iranian officials during his visit, during which he will be accompanied by Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The source added that the talks will address ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, in addition to discussing regional developments. IRNA reported that Munir visited Tehran several times since the start of Pakistani mediation between Iran and the United States.
During his recent visit, he met with Iranian President Masoud Pazeshkian, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei, Speaker of the Islamic Shura Council Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, and Interior Minister Eskander Momani. According to the agency, “This is the fifth official visit of the Pakistani Army Commander to the Islamic Republic of Iran since the start of the ceasefire in the war imposed on the country.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Sunday that his country's proposal submitted to America to open the Strait of Hormuz within 7 days is still on the table, stressing that the strait will be opened on the sixth day if Iranian conditions are implemented, with negotiations to resume on the seventh day. IRNA quoted Araqchi as saying, on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Baghdad: “Iran’s conditions are completely clear, and they were presented to the American side within the framework of a 7-day plan.” The Iranian Foreign Minister added: “The American side presented its observations, and we are studying them, and the Iranian plan is still on the table.”
If there is indeed credibility on the American side, which there is not, then the path is completely clear, and the path to opening the Strait of Hormuz is completely clear.”
