- The former Egyptian player Ahmed Hossam Mido commented on Mohamed Salah's departure from the Egypt national football team camp, following the draw with Angola in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, considering it a "disaster by all standards," and calling for an apology from the national team's coach Hossam Hassan for his statements. Ahmed Hossam Mido wrote on his official account on the "X" platform, formerly Twitter, on Saturday: "Mohamed Salah's exit from the national team camp under the current circumstances is a disaster by all standards!!"
Mido added: "For the captain to leave the camp under these circumstances is an indication that there is chaos in the national team camp. As a football man, I assure you that things have unraveled and intervention from the responsible officials is necessary," as he expressed. Ahmed Hossam Mido further stated: "The Egypt national team is not a toy in anyone's hands; it has become imperative for Captain Hossam to apologize for his statements officially as soon as possible!!"
The Egyptian Football Association announced through its social media accounts on Saturday that Mohamed Salah would be rested for the "Pharaohs" match against South Sudan. The Football Association clarified that the reason for resting Salah is due to the "tartan" pitch that will host the match on September 29, as part of the second round of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Egyptian Football Association revealed that Mohamed Salah had agreed with the coaching staff at the beginning of the international break not to play in this match, as coach Hossam Hassan prefers to "preserve the player." The 34-year-old star participated in the match between the "Pharaohs" and Angola last Friday, which ended in a goalless draw.
