Trump Publishes Republican Senator's Number and Calls on Americans to Contact Him About Daylight Saving Time

U.S. President Donald Trump published the phone number of Republican Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas and called on residents of the state to contact him to push for the passage of a bill that ends the biannual clock change, in a public escalation of their disagreement over daylight saving time.

Trump stated in a post on the platform 'Truth Social' that Cotton, whom he described as 'a friend of mine', is obstructing the 'Sunshine Protection Act', urging Arkansas residents to 'get it done' and calling on the Senate to vote on the bill.

Trump noted that the House of Representatives passed the bill with a majority of 308 votes to 117, and he said that establishing permanent daylight saving time would provide more daylight during the afternoon, which he considered beneficial for sports activities, agriculture, and more.

In contrast, Cotton defended his position, stating that Congress had previously approved permanent daylight saving time but later reversed it after Americans faced the problem of delayed sunrise during the winter.

Cotton wrote on the platform 'X': 'No one likes changing the clock, and I am one of them, but Congress has approved permanent daylight saving time multiple times and then canceled it each time after Americans experienced ridiculously late sunrises in winter.'

He added: 'The people of Arkansas do not want their children to go to school in complete darkness, and I will always put Arkansas first.'

The 'Sunshine Protection Act' aims to adopt daylight saving time year-round, instead of changing the clock twice a year. The disagreement between Trump and Cotton focuses on the implications of this change, particularly morning hours during the winter months.
