Egypt is one of the best and most exciting diving destinations in the world, as the Red Sea hosts many rare and amazing marine creatures, the most famous of which are dolphins, which attract diving enthusiasts from all over the world. In an astonishing video clip (watch it above), freediver Tatiana Mendez, from Cape Verde (Cabo Verde), appears as she swims in remarkable harmony with a dolphin in the waters of the Red Sea, in a scene that appears to be a peaceful dance combining man and nature.
Mendes appeared in the Sha'ab Satayeh Reserve, also known as the "Home of the Dolphins" in the Red Sea, with an exceptional moment that brought her together with one of the dolphins during a free dive, as the two appeared to be performing a harmonious dance underwater before rising to the surface. Sataeh reef is located in the south of Marsa Alam city in the Red Sea Governorate in Egypt, specifically in the Wadi El Gemal Nature Reserve.
The video clip that Mendes posted caused a wide reaction on social media platforms, with many describing it as a scene that carries a great deal of peace and beauty. Speaking to Ufoq News in Arabic, Mendes explained that she was on a boat with a group of people when they arrived at the Sitaih reef, which is a natural habitat for spinner dolphins that gather to communicate and swim in the calm waters within the coral lagoon.
She added that the group entered the water for the purpose of observation only, stressing that encounters with marine creatures must always take place according to their conditions, and not according to the desires of humans. “For just a few seconds, it seemed like I was moving with a dolphin in a spiral toward the surface,” Mendez said.
“There was no planning or attempt to create a scene, it just happened naturally.” Although Mendes has spent years freediving and exploring oceans around the world, experiences like these still amaze her.
She described swimming alongside dolphins as an experience that is difficult to express in words, adding that she felt like a moment of communication between two creatures sharing the same world rather than just an interaction between a human and a marine creature. The free submarine saw that the Red Sea possesses a special charm that distinguishes it from any other place, as its waters are very clear, its coral reefs are vibrant, and its biological diversity is exceptional.
She added that she hopes the video will contribute to "enhancing people's appreciation for nature and encouraging them to protect the seas and oceans," stressing that "the beauty of this moment lies in the fact that it did not happen inside an aquarium or a controlled environment, but rather in the dolphins' natural habitat where they live in complete freedom."
