- A court ordered the detention of the head of the Central Referees Committee of the Turkish Football Federation, Ferhat Gündoğdu, pending investigation into "corruption cases," according to the Anadolu Agency on Saturday. The Office of Combating Illegal Betting and Sports-Related Crimes, part of the Istanbul Public Prosecutor's Office, had initiated an investigation against Ferhat Gündoğdu and six other individuals.
The suspects face charges of "forgery of official documents," "breach of trust," and "illegally obtaining personal data." The head of the Central Referees Committee and the suspects appeared before a judge last Friday.
The judge decided to place the head of the referees committee and four other individuals in pre-trial detention, while granting conditional release to two others. Anadolu reported that initial findings suggest that Ferhat Gündoğdu may be linked to these cases.
