The Chief of Staff of the Taiz axis in the Yemeni army, Major General Abdulaziz Al-Majidi, confirmed that government forces are waging battles against the Houthis on various axes of the city of Taiz, stressing that the current confrontations represent an “existential battle” for the forces defending the city.

Al-Majidi said, in exclusive statements to Al-Arabiya channel, that government forces are facing the Houthis’ attempts to advance into Taiz from all axes, stressing the continuation of confrontations on the various fronts surrounding the city.

He added that the army forces are confronting these attempts and are working to prevent the Houthis from achieving field progress towards the city.

The Chief of Staff of the Taiz axis described the nature of the confrontations as an existential battle, in reference to the importance of the ongoing battles for government forces.

He explained that the clashes are not limited to one axis, but rather include various axes of the city, in light of what he described as continuous attempts by the Houthis to enter it.

Regarding the army’s preparations, Al-Majidi confirmed that the government forces are more prepared today than they were in the past to confront the Houthis.

He stressed the ability of the forces defending Taiz to confront attempts to advance towards the city, in light of the continuing confrontations on its various axes.

Taiz is gaining strategic importance in the Yemeni conflict, given its geographical location that connects several regions in the north and south of the country, in addition to being one of the most prominent cities that witnessed long confrontations between government forces and the Houthis.

During the years of war, the city suffered from fighting and restrictions imposed on the movement of people and goods, which exacerbated the humanitarian and economic conditions there.
