Israeli player Sid Abu Farhi received a red card due to the way he celebrated scoring the equalizing goal for his national team against the host team Austria in the UEFA Nations League football championship, on Thursday evening.

After scoring the equalizer for Israel, making the score 1-1 at the beginning of the second half of the match, Abu Farhi ran towards the corner flag, removed it from its place, then knelt on his right knee on the grass and rested the flagpole on the back of his left hand before making a gesture that mimicked shooting.

The referee quickly showed the second yellow card to the Colorado Rapids forward just four minutes after receiving the first one, which led to his expulsion from the match, according to what was reported by the DPA agency.

While that moment spread widely on social media, opinions were divided on the interpretation of this celebratory act, noting that it was not immediately clear whether Abu Farhi was mimicking a billiard cue shot or a weapon use gesture.

While some of the player's fans shared old videos and photos of him celebrating in the same way when scoring goals, to indicate that he did not intend to mimic the shooting.

Romano Schmid opened the scoring for the Austrian national team with a penalty, before both Philipp Mwene and Sasa Kalajdzic scored two goals in the final minutes, ending the match with a victory for the hosts by a score of 3 / 1, in the group stage of the second tier of the continental competition.
